About Afya Global
Afya Global is led by Managing Director Lee Wells. Lee has twenty years health sector experience. In addition to senior health policy roles in the UK Parliament, he was Director of Corporate Affairs for Novartis UK and then Head of Access to Medicines Policy at Novartis’ global HQ in Switzerland where he played a significant role in the delivery of the Coartem Malaria Initiative, negotiating supply agreements with UNICEF and USAID and with governments across Africa. Prior to founding Afya Global, Lee was Executive Director of the Touch Foundation, a non-profit organisation based out of McKinsey & Company’s offices in New York working on health systems strengthening (HSS) and human resources for health (HRH) where he expanded a partnership with USAID and a Tanzanian teaching hospital, to increase national training of doctors by 30%.
Afya Global has recruited those with public and private sector experience to manage programmes across Sub-Sahara and Southern Africa. Lee and the team have created and managed partnerships which have delivered over $120m of value since 2012, providing healthcare, treatment and transport to over 1,000,000 women and babies.
